All in the family

First Look - Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton received nearly a quarter of a million dollars last year for a speaking engagement on behalf of Academic Partnerships, a for-profit education company in which Jeb Bush held an ownership stake and on whose board he served.

Clinton’s newly filed personal financial disclosure shows that she was paid $225,500 on March 24, 2014 by Academic Partnerships.

Academic Partnerships assists universities in converting their academic degree programs into online versions that can be taken by students around the world.

In 2011, Bush joined Academic Partnerships as an investor and as a paid advisor. He helped the company host multiple conferences and has appeared in online videos encouraging others to consider the Academic Partnership business model. Though he did not share the stage with Clinton, Bush spoke at the same conference.

Preparing for an expected bid for the Republican nomination for president, Bush resigned from Academic Partnerships in December.

Does any normal person think that a quarter million dollars for a single speaking engagement isn't an open attempt to buy influence in the halls of government?

Does this really surprise anyone? The Democrats and the Republicans only exist as separate parties to provide the illusion of some kind of choice existing. Government has just become the political arm of the corporations. I think we should rename our world from Planet Earth to Planet Nightmare, because that is what it has become. There is nowhere to escape where the corporations and the rich don't rule. Nowhere to go where greed, banality and idiocy don't rule. No freedom, no hope, no community, nothing. Do you hope for resistance? It is futile, they monitor our every move now, they know all our secrets, all our lusts, and all our weaknesses. There is also no solidarity. Few people even know about the issues, most "progressives" just care about pointless lifestyle issues and are whiny "social justice warriors", the type you find on sites like Tumblr In Action. Go Google that site and if you don't lose hope for humanity, then you are part of the problem. This world has become one of madness and despair. I know you all feel it as well. We all know deep down that there is no turning back and that things will only get worse forever. At least there are thoughtful people like Sam Smith around still, but unfortunately they are all too rare.
